How to Use GYEB Edge Control the Right Way

Straight from the jar to your mirror.

No flakes, just laid perfection.

Nilla Edge Control Tutorial

So you got your hands on the edge control everybody and their mama’s been talking about. Good. Now don’t mess it up. The girls who get it follow these steps to the letter. And yes, they read the label first. Let’s go:

1. Clean Edges Only, Sis.

Don’t play yourself. If you’ve got old product sitting on your edges, wipe it off. A clean start is key. Use water, a gentle cleanser, or micellar water if you fancy. Just make sure yesterday’s slick-down is gone.

2. No Piling It On Day After Day

We see y’all out here thinking more edge control = more hold. Nope. That’s how you get flakes and crust. If your edges aren’t acting right, clean them, then reapply. Don’t layer product on top of a mess.

3. Moisturize, But Keep It Light

Dry hair breaks, but greasy hair won’t hold. Moisturize with something light (like our GYEB Hair Serum) and stay away from thick creams before applying edge control. Creams and gels do not mix well.

4. Water Is Not a Styling Product

Damp is okay. Drenched? Nope. If your hair is soaking wet, your edge control is gonna slide and cake up. Use a light mist if you need to soften your edges before styling. No more, no less.

5. Pair It With the GYEB Growth Oil

This combo is undefeated. The serum nourishes and softens your edges, while the edge control lays everything down smooth. It’s giving healthy and fly. Don’t skip the prep.

6. Say NO to Flaky Gels

Don’t mix our edge control with gels that harden or turn white. You will end up with crusty, stiff edges that look like they’ve been through it ALL. This is a smooth hold type of party.

7. Patch Test First, Then Go Wild

We know you’re ready to swoop and swirl, but do a small patch test first, especially if you’ve got sensitive skin. Once you know it’s all good? Go off, queen. Paint the baby hair masterpiece you deserve.

8. Tie It Down and Let It Dry

This step right here is the miracle. Use a silk or satin scarf and wrap your edges for 10–15 minutes. It helps lock in the style and makes sure they dry laid, not lumpy.

9. Show Off Those Edges

Once your edges are laid to perfection, it’s time to brag.

Bonus Tips From the GYEB Crew:

  • Your tools matter. Use a proper edge brush (We'll give you one for free with your next order), toothbrush, or rat-tail comb for detail.
  • Keep it cool. Store the jar in a cool place. Heat can change the texture.
  • Don’t skip wash day. Clean edges lay better. Always have a clean base.
